The Visitor Centre of the Gauja National Park offers to become acquainted with the Gauja National Park choosing one of the three developed walking routes in Sigulda as well as trying the stages of newly drawn route of Sigulda - Līgatne.
Excursions leaded by experienced nature and environment guides where You will have an opportunity to act and discuss developing a better understanding of the environment, the importance of nature protection, the relations between the living creatures as well as the influence of mankind upon the processes in nature.

Musical surprise trip

Level of difficulty: Suitable for anyone ready for a healthy walk, serious climbing up the old banks of the Gauja (The route includes climbing ca. 400 metres up and down. The steep reaches 7-11% ) as well as for anyone ready for unexpected surprises by nature, for instance, the dizzy smell of bird- cherries or sudden blizzard of falling leaves in the autumn.

For 200 years the symbol of Sigulda is walking- stick
The ornamental tourist walking-stick is the most well-known souvenir of Sigulda since the 19th Ct. Really it is not possible to climb up and down all the banks of the old valley of river Gauja without a decent walking-stick. The Visitor Centre of the Gauja National Park offers the opportunity to take a part in the creative and informative process of making a Sigulda walking-stick as well as to listen to the story about the walking-stick history told by Anita Pulle- the heiress of craftsmen family who owns the secrets of making these souvenirs.

Bee-keeper in action
This offer includes an opportunity to observe the daily work of an experienced bee-keeper and to learn some of the secrets of this profession. From May till August it will be possible to go in the bee-garden, to look into bee-hives and to observe the life of the bees while they gather pollen and honey into the cells.

Valleys of the small affluents of river Gauja
The valleys of small rivers in the Gauja National Park are beautiful and diverse. All the old valley of river Gauja is crossed by small streams. You can find both waterfalls, and caves as well as rocks there.
To enjoy the walk it is necessary to have comfortable footwear and clothes.
The guide will provide tea and snacks for a break.
The length of the route depends on the wishes of the client. 3 hours walk would be advisable.

Medical plants
Although this is possible to buy all kinds of medical herb mixtures in the apothecaries self gathered and self prepared herbs are much more valuable and will preserve our health throughout whole winter. The herbs we need the most usually are to be found right at our door-steps. Let us see it ourselves!
Comfortable clothes and waterproof foot-wear are necessary to enjoy the walk in the meadows.

Rocks of the Līgatne region
There are unique rocks of sandstone and dolomite, to be found at the bank sides of the rivers Gauja, Amata and rapid Ligatne. They are worth seeing. The most well known is the Zvartes rock, Jumpravas rock, Springu rock, Lustuzis and others. On foot, by byke, by boat or by car- let us go and visit the most interesting rocks of Ligatne.

There are trees whom we call by names, we know their age and their history. The nature scientists of Latvia have made the long lists of so called great-trees. Do You know where to find them? Do You know how wide and how tall a tree must be to be called great-tree in Latvia? Do You know how to measure the tree accurately? Let us visit the giants of our woods and maybe we will find a new great-tree!

How to make good nature photos. A lesson
In the time of the digital photography in almost each PC is a huge photo collection which very likely contains some landscapes and various pictures of flowers. Some advice of knowing photographer will be useful to improve the quality of Your pictures, so You would be able to be proud of Your works. Let us go in the nature accompanied by a photographer!

Three castle mounds
It is time to go for a trip and challenge Your strength. The route starts at Ligatne castle mound, continues through picturesque landscape till the castle mound of Kalntitmani and after a break moves forth till the castle mound of Satezele. The route is ca.30 km long. It is possible to make it on foot or by byke. The walkers can either split the route into 2 days or make a brave effort to do it in one day.

Potato harvest
The joint work to harvest the potatoes in autumn is not only the work to do but also a lot of fun and is a healthy exercise in fresh air at the same time. We invite You to enjoy the atmosphere of the joint work in a good company helping a farmer to gather the annual potato harvest. An activity with the taste of countryside exotics. The dinner is guaranteed.

Mushroom gathering
The woods in the Gauja National Park are rich in mushrooms. Everyone has the opportunity there to get acquainted with almost all of both edible and poisonous mushroom species to be found in Latvia. The walk in fresh air gives the possobility to strengthen Your body and to explore the wealth of wood.
We will use the illustrated manual of mushroom species to identify them
You will get advice how to prepare the meal using the mushrooms gathered by Yourselves
A special offer is mushroom gathering at night when each mushroom found in the light of a lantern is a trophy and searching for the mushrooms turns into the sport. The time to be spent in wood depends on Your wishes.
To enjoy the time spent in the wood it is advisable:
to have a basket or a bag and a knife

Ice-falls of Ligatne region
Most of the ice-falls of Latvia You will find in the Gauja National Park. In wintertime the steep bank of Pikene in Krimulda, the Ergli rocks at the river Gauja and many other places are decorated by the cascades of icicles. In cold winters springs and small streams turn into the ice-falls. Each year they are different. To visit the miracles created by nature You must count with a little more difficult walk, but all will be the winners.
